  12. and installation instructions.

  63. For Mac OS and Windows users, it is strongly recommended that you
  64. exit all programs before running the setup program. Also, you
  65. should temporarily disable virus-detection software.
  66.  
  67. Install into a clean (new) directory. Installing on top of released
  68. product builds may cause problems.

  70. *Installation Instructions -- Windows
  71.     
  72.     1. If you are installing from the CD: 
  73.     - Double-click the Windows directory on the Netscape 6
  74.     CD to open it, if you haven't done so already. 
  75.     
  76.     If you are downloading from the Netscape site:
  77.     - Click the N6Setup.exe link to download it to your 
  78.     machine.
  79.     
  80.     2. Double-click the N6Setup program icon on your machine
  81.     to begin the Setup program.
  82.     
  83.     3. Follow the on-screen instructions in the Setup program.
  84.     
  85.     4. To start Netscape, double-click the Netscape 6 icon in 
  86.     the Netscape 6 folder.

  88. *Installation Instructions -- Mac OS

  90.     1. If you are installing from the CD:
  91.     - Skip to step 3 now.

  93.     If you are downloading from the Netscape site:
  94.     - Click the Netscape6Installer.sea.bin link to download it
  95.     to your machine. 
  96.     
  97.     By default, the download file (compressed, in .bin format) 
  98.     is downloaded to your desktop.

  100.     If the downloaded file does not expand automatically, you 
  101.     must expand the file using a program such as StuffIt Expander.
  102.     If you don't have StuffIt Expander, you can get a copy by
  103.     visiting:

  107.     2. Double-click the Netscape6Installer folder.

  109.     3. Double-click the Netscape 6 Installer icon.

  119.     1. If you are installing from the CD:
  120.     - Change to the Linux directory on the CD: cd linux. Then skip to 
  121.     step 3.

  123.     If you are downloading from the Netscape site:
  124.     - Download the netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-installer.tar.gz archive.

  126.     2. Untar the archive: 
  127.     gzip -dc netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-installer.tar.gz | tar -xvf

  129.     3. Change to the "netscape-installer" directory: cd netscape-installer
  130.  
  131.     4. Run the Netscape 6 Installer with the run script: ./netscape-installer

  133.     5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation
  134.     process.

  136.     6. To start Netscape, change to the directory where you installed it
  137.     and run the program: ./netscape
